Sarah Shaw read Greek and English (BA) and did her doctorate in English Literature at Manchester University. She is a fellow of the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies and a member of the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oxford, where she teaches Buddhist Studies. She is a contemplative ‘tutor-in-residence’  for the Contemplative Studies department at Brown University, USA. She was Reader in Buddhist Studies at the University of South Wales, UK, and now teaches for their online MA. Her research interests include texts on meditation, narrative, Abhidhamma, Sutta, and developments in modern Theravada Buddhist practice. Recent books include The Art of Listening (Shambhala 2021) and a study of histories of breathing mindfulness (Shambhala 2025). She has just completed a translation of the Dhammasaṅgaṇī, the first book of the Pāli Abhidhamma, for the Royal Thai Tipitaka Project (Royal Thai Tipitaka Project 2025).
